...is scheduled as the guest speaker for the 250th meeting of the Karl Hess Club, to convene on February 16, 2015.

Dr. Dave Schrader on "The Rise and Demise of Empires: Are We Next to Fall?"

Philosopher George Santayana is best known for coining the phrase "Those who cannot remember the past condemned to repeat it." He's less known for "Only the dead have seen the end of war."

Dr. Dave Schrader will examine the nature of empire and its relation to our own nation's place in history. He will examine the Roman and Holy Roman empires, the Incan empire, the early Portuguese and Spanish empires, the Dutch and British empires, and finally our own American empire. (Dare we call it that?)

What can we learn from the demise of earlier empires? How far along are we to repeating the same mistakes? Decide for yourself.

Topics to include perpetual war, currency devaluation, rebellions, political manipulations to maintain power, and blowback.
